So, for Christmas Eve, we usually go to church. Then, my parents join us at our house where we have sandwich and snack stuff. We open our presents.
The next morning, we wake up (well, the kids wake us up) to their stockings, which are from Santa.
After that, we go to my parents' home for a nice meal and have Christmas there.
This year, my hubby is working on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. He will return on the 25th, but we won't know what time he will be home until he's home. It could be as early as around noon, or as late as midnight.
We are trying to figure out the best and easiest way to handle our normal celebrations.
My hubby wants to see the kids with their stockings from Santa first thing in the morning. I suggested that I "write" to Santa to explain that gifts should be dropped off a day later. Hubby says that the kids won't really know what day it is, so we can just off-set by one day....letting them think that the 26th is really the 25th.
What would you do?
What we don't want is for Santa to come, leave the stockings and the kids have to wait hours before they can open them.
I have a poll on the right sidebar. You can vote there. You can also leave me a comment with a suggestion.
And please.....I know some of you don't do Santa and you think it is wrong to "deceive" children with stories about him. That's fine, whatever.....
Tell me what you think.

We're a military family so we just roll with or without That Guy I Married;)
Seriously...I have no real advice. We just live our lives and when he can be here, he is.
"Santa" is coming to our house early this year because we'll be out of town. We'll tell the kids that we let Santa know that we'll be gone and he agreed to come visit them early...don't know if it's right or wrong but it works for us :0)
I didn't get to vote on the right side because I don't like any of the choices.
My theory has always been that they invented video cameras for a reason. I like "justdawn" comment. Our routine is always exactly the same and who can be here is here. My kids know exactly when Santa is suppose to be here and me pretending that it is another day or any of the other stuff would create a thousand questions. I have gone round and round with a friend about this before. Santa always comes early or late at her house because they go to the grandparents and my thought is that you only get this special time for a short period and her kids have never woke up Christmas morning in their own home and seen Santa presents. They walk through their door after a trip and see it days later. Oh the fun that must be!! Ok, I am rambling. This sort of thing gets me a little testy!
I think I'd go with sending Santa a note to come a day later...it kind of wierds me out to tell a kid it's Christmas when it really isn't...plus your kids are too smart for that!
Les...not reason to get testy. :D
LL-I wasn't getting testy with you...the subject as a whole and different postponing Santa scenarios.
I know, Les...I'm just teasin' ya.
We honestly haven't decided what we will do.
My oldest knows, so he isn't an issue. But the other 3 will be. 3 year old is just getting it, but he is a smart cookie. So, we'll see.
With living here and parents living in another state we have usually have had santa come early becuase they were small enough to not really realize the early vs when the 25th is. Now they are older it's become an issue so this year we are doing "OUR" gifts here early and then Santa is just coming to Arkansas so he will actually come on the 25th this year and not here and there. WHEW I'm worn out just thinking about all of that.
I think that a letter would be fine. I bet that the boys would enjoy David being there more than not.
Since all the kids friends will be playing with their new things on Christmas day I have to suggest a camcorder recording of the actual morning and then the kids can show it to dad when he gets home. You can't postpone church services etc... and otherwise you run the risk of the kids figuring out about Santa with a note to delay.
I am thinking go do Christmas Eve with family, and write the letter. It will be TOO hard for those kids to have to stare at the stockings all day. You do what you think is best.
